Mini Apple Rose Pies

I'm absolutely obsessed with all things mini such as mini pigs, teacup puppies, mini cupcakes, and of course mini pies. . . . .  Yes mini pies have been rocking my world lately. I'm sure everyone has seen this delicious recipe floating around Facebook and Pinterest about the ever so adorable mini apple pies. I felt obligated as a bake goods lover to at least attempt to make one. I must admit in the back of my mind I thought this was definitely going to end up as a Pinterest Fail, but shockingly the process was not nearly as difficulty as it seems. 

I'm not going to go into detail about the recipe which I got from here, just wanted to point out the one thing I did differently. I did not use apricot or strawberry preserve as seen in a lot of Facebook recipes but instead I used melted butter, some brown sugar, and lemon juice. Which was delicious!

So first thing first I'm the realest. . . lol

No but seriously first thing first is slicing the apples an half and cutting the core out.

After core cutting, slice your apple into thin slices, sprinkle the lemon juice over your slices and than sprinkle the brown sugar over next. 

Next lie your apple slices in a straight line overlapping each other and begin to just roll it. 

Place those beautiful "apple petals" into your pie crust 

Sprinkle brown sugar on top (I like it sweet)

Bake at 375F for about 20-30 minutes (until your crust is nice and brown)

And Viola! Your ready to enjoy your delicious treat!!! I placed our pies into mini pie pans after they cooled just because we had company and it made it a bit fancier lol

Sprinkle sugar and a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. Well in our case strawberry ice cream since that's Peanut favorite and your good to go. I must say these make the perfect Fall treat and it's so damn cute. Let me know what you guys think

A Day At The Park

I wanted to share some photos that I recently took of the girls at Smith Memorial Playground & Playhouse. If your ever in the Philadelphia area Smith's is a MUST-DO for the kiddos! Between the huge barn slide, indoor play area, endless swings and climb on things it's like kid heaven.

We finished our afternoon adventure with a homemade half-cheese and half-pepperoni pizza made by yours truly and my mini chef Peanut.

Hello Fall

             Well Hello there Autumn or should I say Fall?! 

 Fall is my absolute favorite time of the year! It's something about the smell of pumpkin spice and cinnamon that hold a special place in my heart. It makes me feel so warm inside! Not too mention fall fashion layering, and booties, and scarves, o my! Today I got to do a short stroll through 30th st station. . .by MYSELF which is extremely rare.

 It's not often you won't see me without Peanut, Sprout, or Mr. B but I had some much needed "ME" time and enjoyed every minute of it. It was just a beautiful fall day not too hot, not too cold, and there was a slight breeze.

 Hmmm what more could a girl ask for??

 Here's a peek at our "Fall Bucket List" the things that Mr. B & I want to do are written in brown and the things that Peanut & Sprout want to do are written in orange. I'm thinking of baking some pumpkin muffins for breakfast.  .  . I'll keep you guys posted!!

Best Books for Toddlers & Kindergarteners

This is kind of like a bogo post originally I wanted to discuss some of our favorite toddler books, but with our Peanut starting kindergarten it's only right to discuss some of her favorite books as well. So yes our Peanut has started kindergarten this past week and we are BEYOND proud of her adjustment into "Big Girl" school as she refers to it. Of course as parents we tried our best to make her transition from daycare to real school as easy as possible, but she was still nervous, a bit scared, and a tad shy. As a way to help with those first day jitters we went to our local library and got as many books as possible on school. Here are our top 5 back to school books that are must reads!

Just sharing a few that we have enjoyed over her first week of school. These are books that  you may want to consider adding to your little one's library.

 Preschool-Kindergarten

  













A Bad Case Of Stripes by David Shannon - This maybe our go to book every year on the night before the first day of school.  My peanut some times folds under peer pressure and will completely try to x out something she LOVES because other's may thing it's "dumb". A Bad Case of Stripes really helps her with her confidence and sticking to what she likes and believes in regardless of what other kids think. 

My Mouth Is A Volcano by Julia Cook - We are currently still working on learning to not interrupt others when they are speaking. The first few days of school may have been the hardest for her adjusting to raising her hand when she has a question or wants to speak. The kid is a work in progress but she can definitely relate to her mouth being a volcano.  

Lacey Walker, Nonstop Talker by Christianne C. Jones - Peanut is at the age where curiosity is at a all time high. If she's not asking questions than she is telling you a story, or repeating something she saw on tv, or something that she did with her friends earlier that day. The girl just doesn't know how to zip it. 

Too Much Glue by Jason Lefebvre - Love this book, it has a cute way of stressing the importance of listening and following directions.

Chrysanthemum by Kevin Henkes - One of Peanut's favorite books just an overall good read to once again reinforce her self-esteem and confidence.  

Toddler-Preschool

Sprout enjoys story time. Here are some of her favorite books.

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin Jr. - Sprout absolutely LOVES this book. The key is to read it in a singing voice, she loves to yell BOOM BOOM and whisper chicka chicka. 

Mr. Brown Can Moo! Can You? by Dr. Seuss's - I use these book to get Sprout to repeat after me. It's amazing how long the story holds her attention. Her favorite part is the train.

Giving An Old Chair New Life

Instead of paying thousands of dollars for a new dining room set, why not just change out those ugly chair seats? 

When Mr. B and I moved into our first apartment a very close family friend of our's got us a very nice dining room set. The set was in excellent condition and came with an extendable dining room table, six chairs, and a china cabinet. . . ooo did I mention the set was from her great grandmother who purchased it in the 60's?! The dingy mustard color yellow seat cushions were a complete eye sore, and literally killed all hopes and dreams I had planned of ever hosting a holiday party at my house. Yes the seats were that bad, but no we could not turn down such an amazing set. After having the dining set for a year and moving into a bigger apartment I thought "THIS CAN NOT BE LIFE?!" I was so sick of those mustard color yellow chairs that went with NOTHING in our place. One day while scrolling through Pinterest I came across a post about How to Upholster Chairs I wish you guys could see the look of relief on my face. I immediately got to work!   

Here’s how easy it is to change out those seat fabrics.

First thing first was to get rid of the old fabric using pliers. It's literally the hardest part of this project. The staples are a B-I-T-C-H!!! 

After removing the ugly fabric and getting down to the foam and board we are ready to recover.

I used the old fabric as my "pattern" for the new covers by laying it on top of the new material and cutting around it.

Pull the fabric as tight as possible and begin stapling.

Now your ready to reattach it back to the chair. So just pop it back into place and screw in your screws. 

And Voila! You just gave an OLD chair NEW life
